National Park: Bug-Catching Contest
The Bug-Catching Contest is a signature recurring event held in the National Park, located north of Goldenrod City in the Johto region. It is a premier opportunity for trainers to expand their Pokédex, capture rare Pokémon, and earn valuable evolution stones.
Event Schedule
The contest is held three times a week:
- Tuesday
- Thursday
- Saturday

Contest Rules
To participate, speak to the guard standing in the middle of the South Entrance station.
- Time Limit: 20 Minutes.
- Equipment: Participants are provided with 20 Sport Balls.
- Team Constraints: You may only take one Pokémon into the park. The rest of your party will be held by the guard until the contest concludes.
- Judging Criteria: Pokémon are judged based on their Level, Rarity, Current HP, and Stats.
- Completion: The contest ends if the timer expires, you run out of balls, your Pokémon faints, or you exit through a guardhouse.
> Note: You only keep the single Pokémon you choose to submit for judging. Choose wisely!

Prizes and Rewards

| Placement | Reward |
|---|---|
| First Place | Sun Stone |
| Second Place | Everstone |
| Third Place | Sitrus Berry |
| Participation | Shed Shell |

Battle & Capture Strategy
- The Soft Reset Method: Save your game before talking to the guard. If you do not win the specific prize you want, reset the game before saving to try again.
- HP Management: Since current HP is a judged category, avoid damaging the Pokémon if possible. Simply throwing Sport Balls at full health is the best way to secure a high score.
- Species Selection: While non-bug types like Nidoran or Taillow can be submitted, the judges favor rare Bug types.
