Viridian City is a small city located in western Kanto. It is the first major city the player reaches after leaving Pallet Town and traversing Route 1.

Geography

Viridian City serves as a hub connecting several major routes.

  • North: Leads to Route 2 and the entrance to Viridian Forest.
  • South: Connects back to Route 1 and Pallet Town.
  • East: Leads to Route 22 and the Pokémon League Gate.

Points of Interest

Public Services

  • Pokémon Center:
    • Upstairs: Standard Union Room and connectivity features.
    • Downstairs: A specialized training area for XP grinding .
  • Viridian Bank: A two-room facility for financial security. Players can meet the Bank Manager here to receive a Debit Card.
  • Poké Mart: A general supply shop. Upon the player's first visit, the clerk will provide a Parcel to be delivered to Professor Oak.

Shops & Gyms

  • Clothing Store: A boutique for avatar customization.
    • Inventory: Blue Jeans ($6,500), Blue Shorts ($6,500).
  • Viridian City Gym: The official Pokémon Gym of the city.
    • Note: The Gym is locked durring your first visit and cannot be challenged until very late in the game.

Educational & Residential

  • The Classroom: An educational facility where beginning trainers can learn the basics of status conditions and type advantages.
  • Conspiracy Theorist's House: Home to an NPC known for sharing unusual theories about the region's history.

Special Mechanics

The Viridian Bank interior.

XP Grinding (Nurse Joy)

Players can challenge Nurse Joy in the basement of the Pokémon Center. This repeatable battle is designed for efficient leveling, removing the need to hunt for wild encounters to strengthen a team.

Banking System

The bank protects the player's wealth. Money stored here is not subject to the standard "black out" penalty; if a player loses a battle, only the cash on their person is halved, while banked funds remain untouched.
