Vermillion City is the fifth city visited by the player. It is a major port city located in Kanto, home to the Electric-type Gym Leader, Lt. Surge.
The player arrives in Vermillion City from the North entrance via Route 6.

Vermillion Harbor (The Dock)
A large building located on the dock that serves as a major transportation hub.
- Regional Travel: Allows travel to different regions.
- Event Islands: Grants access to limited-time event islands.
- Ferries: Players can board the Seagallop Ferry or the famous S.S. Anne here.
Guild Hall
A tall tower located within the city.
Fishing Guru's House
A building where an NPC gives the player the Old Rod.
In-Game Trade House
A house where a kid is looking to trade Pokémon.
- Trade: The kid requests a Spearow in exchange for a Farfetch'd.
Conspiracy Theorist's House
A residential house occupied by a conspiracy theorist.
Buildings
- Vermillion Gym: The official Gym of Vermillion City. It is an Electric-type Gym led by Lt. Surge.
- Pokémon Center: Features a standard upstairs area and a special downstairs area where players can battle Nurse Joy for XP grinding.
- Poké Mart: Standard shop for buying Poké Balls and other items.
- Clothing Store: Sells various cosmetic items for the player.
- Residential House: A building housing a family of NPCs.
