Goldenrod City is the largest metropolis in the Johto region. Known as the "Festive City of Opulent Charm," it serves as the region's center of economy, telecommunications, and entertainment, rivaling Saffron City in Kanto for its sheer size and diversity of attractions.

Buildings

As a bustling hub, Goldenrod City contains several of the most important landmarks in Johto:

  • Goldenrod Department Store:

    A massive multi-story building offering a vast array of items, TMs, and medicine.

  • Radio Tower:

    The source of all radio broadcasts in Johto. It plays a central role in the region's media and history.
    • NPC Gift: An old man in the middle of the counter gives a Premier Ball.
    • Radio Expansion Quiz: Answer 5 questions correctly (Revive, 20, Mart is out of balls, 9, Neo Genesis).
  • Magnet Train Station:

    The high-speed rail link connecting Goldenrod City to Saffron City in Kanto.
  • Bike Shop:
    Bike Shop
    A local business that provides trainers with bicycles to speed up their travel.
    • Stock: Gives the player a Free Bike.
  • Name Rater:
    Entrance 2 (Name Rater)
    Located in a small house, this man allows trainers to change the nicknames of their Pokémon. (Located near Underground Entrance 2).
  • Goldenrod Science Center:
    Goldenrod Science Center
    (New Addition) A high-tech facility offering advanced services.
    • Services: Hidden Ability Changer (65k), Nature Changer (50k), Fossil Resurrection, IV Reroll (10k), EV Vitamins/Power Items (10k).

  • Goldenrod Underground:
    The Underground
    (New Addition) A tunnel running beneath the city.

Connecting Routes

Goldenrod City is a central crossroads for travelers moving through western Johto:

  • Route 34: Located to the south, this route leads to Azalea Town and is home to the Pokémon Day Care.
  • Route 35: Located to the north, this path leads toward the National Park and eventually Ecruteak City.

Gym

Goldenrod Gym

The Goldenrod Gym is the third official Gym of the Johto League.

  • Type Specialty: Normal
  • The Challenge: The Gym is designed in the shape of a Clefairy. Trainers must navigate through a series of raised platforms and corridors to reach the center.
  • The Catch: Despite the "Normal" typing, the Leader's ace is infamous for its high speed, bulk, and the devastating use of the move Rollout.
